So it’s an archipelago of islands in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa, but it’s the westernmost region of the European Union? Not as confusing as it sounds, these islands belong to Spain. How about we have ULookUBook.com do all the thinking for your upcoming Canaries Holiday?
Spread your wings like a canary and take a flight to one of the four main islands that you will remember for the rest of your lives…Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, or Tenerife.
This scattering of islands that lay as close as 100km from the Moroccan coast are the home to four of Spain’s thirteen National Parks. Arguably the top park for your Canaries holiday is the Parque Nacional del Teide (Teide National Park). This park, which was named as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2007, is where we can marvel at Mount Teide on Tenerife. Mount Teide is not only the highest point in Spain, but the highest point in the Atlantic Ocean and the highest mountain in the European Union that doesn’t reside in the Alps. On top of everything else, it is the third largest volcano in the world from its base standing at 3,718 meters and last erupted in 1909.
After life above the clouds, it is probably time to hit the coast. This is, after all a Canaries holiday! While searching for the rarest Pinniped in the world, the Mediterranean Monk Seal, we can check out several different species of turtle and fish on our SCUBA dive or snorkel. If we are lucky, maybe we will be accompanied with Angel sharks, moray eels, or an octopus.
If diving doesn’t do it for you, go surfing off the north or west coast of Fuerteventura. After a morning session, go deep sea fishing for marlin or just cruise around with the Short-Finned Pilot Whales and Bottlenose Dolphins. The choices are endless.
A Canaries holiday…sounds like a rough life!
