Thanks to its distinctive name, it’s pretty obvious that Gran Canaria is part of the Canary Islands. In fact, it’s the third largest and home to some of most beautiful scenic views and beaches of all of the islands. These are backed up by some of the most modern and world class holiday resorts that can offer a vastly different experience depending on what you want from your Gran Canaria holidays. Whether you’re after a senior holiday, family holiday or something designed more for younger people, there are two things that are all but certain on Gran Canaria holidays: year round sunshine and great prices.
Thanks to the flexible climate you can enjoy holidays to Gran Canaria for most of the year, although the climate does vary somewhat depending on what part of the island you want to visit. The north of the island is cooler as the wind reaches here less due the regions many spectacular mountains, although it is by no means cold. People taking their Gran Canaria holidays on the north of the island can expect to see temperatures of at least 20 degrees even during the winter months.
Gran Canaria has some beautiful beaches all around the island although most of the main resorts are situated to the south and southeast. People looking for an active nightlife will want to be close to Playa Del Ingles, the party capital of the island that houses hundreds of different types of places to drink and have a good time. These range from more traditional bars offering Spanish music and live bands to larger nightclubs that play a large mix of international tracks.
If you’re not into clubbing however, the island offers just as much – if not more – in the way of culture and scenery. One of the best ways to enjoy the island is to rent out a jeep for the day and just go driving, but don’t forget to stop by Las Palmas, the capital of the island, for lunch and a spot of tax-free shopping!
