Holidays in Gran Canaria have maintained a high level of popularity with British tourists for over a decade. You don’t even need to go to the island to see why – simply taking a look at some of the shots of beautiful white beaches juxtaposed with towering, powerful mountains and exotic scenery is enough to make you start packing your bags before you’ve even book your holidays in Gran Canaria.
Despite being a relatively small island – only the third largest of all the Canary islands – Gran Canaria has quite differing climates and scenery depending on where you choose to say. The differences in locations on the island can vary so much that it’s earned the name of ‘little continent’, so you if you’re tired of taking trips to islands that you can drive around for hours and not see anything that’s different holidays in Gran Canaria can really be quite a refreshing experience.
Puerto Rico on the southern coast of the island is a hugely popular destination for holiday makers whether you’re interested in the beautiful scenery or the chance to do a sneaky bit of holiday shopping, but the nearby villages such as Puerto de Mogan also offer up a very unique experience with shopping areas and markets all of their own. The further you travel away from the larger towns the more authentic the experience becomes.
Gran Canaria has three huge water parks all located a short distance away from each other on the southernmost part of the island which makes the area ideal for younger children as the parks give them a slightly more lasting and enjoyable experience than the simple beach lounging that most parents would rather be enjoying! If you do get bored of the parks and the beach though, taking a car through the various forests, mountains and dunes the island has to offer is a great diversion for couples and families alike.
