Greece is one of the few places in Europe where it’s possible to have a holiday that combines both the relaxing and carefree attitude of a beach break with the more intense and cultural aspects of a holiday seeing the sights. In most countries you have to travel a long way in land to discover the real traditional culture that’s untouched by tourism, and actual ‘attractions’ are few and far between. When you take holidays in Greece, you’ll find that if you stay in the right resort, you can easily alternate your days between tanning and touring without even the hassle of having to rent a car to get around. Perfect locations for this kind of combination holiday are Halkidiki, Kefalonia and Zante.

That’s not to the say that the bigger named islands don’t deserve their reputation, especially if you’re looking for a pure beach holiday and just want to spend the week doing as little as possible (we don’t blame you!). Corfu is a large island that’s a mix of forests, mountains and most important of all, soft white beaches. If you want to break up all that lounging around with an active nightlife, the islands of Crete and Rhodes can offer similar holidays in Greece combined with a great party atmosphere that’s great for the 18-30 crowd.

Anytime between April and October will be perfect for a beach holiday, with temperature peaking in around August. The hotter it gets, the more people flock to the beaches though – and the harder is to find great holiday deals. Leaving your holidays in Greece until late in the year might be a good option, but make sure you check out the weather before you leave on any cheap sounding last minute deal – there’s no use saving money if you’re going to find temperatures dropping to low to enjoy the beach!
