With the state of the economy looming over your head every day and news of problems at home and overseas seemingly endless from the media, it might seem like the worst possible time to go on holiday. But the fact is, bagging a budget holiday during a recession couldn’t be easier, all thanks to the smaller amount of people taking a break. The less people that choose to visit a hotel or take a flight, the more the airline or tour operators will seek to lower the price to make more people have a change of heart.

One way to find a great budget holiday is to actually spend more money at the start. This might seem silly, but for many an all inclusive break will actually mean spending less money overall. It beats going to the absolutely cheapest option and then spending much more than you ever intended to on extras – especially food and drink! All inclusive options are great news in the credit crunch because you can plan everything out before you leave and you’re budget won’t be left in the dark until you get home and realise you’ve had a few too many meals out.

Of course, this isn’t always the best way to get a budget holiday. In countries where the local food is likely to be cheap – the less of a ‘tourist’ area than the better the prices will be – you can actually save by booking the cheapest hotel possible and eating out every evening, especially if you don’t intend to drink very much. Another great budget holiday idea is simply book a week or two from work and spend a few days beforehand using the net to find a last minute deal to anywhere in the world.
Not only can this save money on a budget holiday but it’s also pretty exciting not having a clue where you’re going to spend the next few weeks until only a few days before you are due to leave!
