The recession has lead to less people going on holiday, which is a good for those of us that still plan to go! Hotels which are half booked and have empty rooms are much more likely to offer deals than those that are packed to full capacity throughout the year, so finding cheap hotels is easier than ever in 2009. A hotel would rather offer up a room for a huge discount than let the room stay empty and make no money at all.
Looking for cheap hotels online is simply a matter of typing in your destination and seeing what comes up. Most sites will give you a rundown of the features and amenities of a hotel as well as the star rating, but it’s good to get a bit more information than this if possible. While the star rating of a hotel might tell you exactly how good it’s various facilities are, it won’t say much about the actual customer service or ‘experience’ that cheap hotels can offer, so you want to check out how the holidays of others have fared.
Again, the internet is invaluable here – even the smallest hotels will have had reviews from people that have stayed there that can give you a genuine opinion of a place, so you can make a decision about whether that hotel you’re looking at online really is a great deal or whether it’s prices are low for a good reason.
Knowing what you want from where you stay is the best way to get a great deal on cheap hotels. For example, if you’re hiring a car you can afford to stay in a hotel that’s further away from key attractions or if you’re going without kids you can stay away from hotels that offer childcare facilities. Almost every hotel these days – even the most basic, one star room will offer decent enough accommodation for budget travellers – just don’t expect a silver service!
