Remember that beautiful Christmas Eve where the first snow begins to settle on your lawn as you and your family eagerly await the beautiful winter landscape of Christmas day, complete with snowman building and sledge rides? No, neither do we, and that’s because Christmas and winter in general in the UK isn’t about idyllic snow laden holidays, it’s about a lot of freezing winds and harsh rain, with the only snow coming two months after Christmas and grinding the country to a halt. It’s enough to make you want to get away, and luckily, you can find a huge variety of cheap winter holidays online.
There are two main holidays people normally take during the winter months. Both offer their own advantages and you can find cheap winter holidays from both types of break if you do your research and leave the UK at the right time, but otherwise they couldn’t be more different.
The first is to completely abandon the British winter and go straight for the sunniest place you can find. For many British people this will mean taking a break a little further afield than they might do in the summer. The Spanish destinations are actually quite temperate and great for walking and hiking holidays or for seeing the sites you might miss during the summer because you are stuck to the beach. However, for cheap winter holidays that truly get you the sun a long haul flight to the Caribbean or anywhere in the southern hemisphere may be in order. Egypt is hugely popular as it remains very hot all year round but is close enough to the UK to only involve 4 hours on a plane. This proximity also means cheaper flights and flights from budget airlines making Egypt ideal of cheap winter holidays.
The other type of holiday normally involves getting cheap flights to Northern Europe and really embracing the idea of winter in the best place possible – a ski resort. This is a perfect family trip and even if you’ve never done anything like it before, it can be a memorable experience. If you’re worried about your skills on the slopes you can always take some lessons before you leave in the UK's many dry skiing facilities!
