Even if you’re the type of person that has been booking their holidays online for years or a family that’s been taking an annual holiday every year since you can remember, it’s likely that you’ve been thinking about spending less or even not going on holiday at all this year as worries about the state of the world economy continue to spread.

However, while finances might not be doing great and things like food and electricity are costing more than ever, it doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice the holiday that you look forward to every year. In fact, many studies show that it’s just as important to your well being to take a holiday every now and again and could even improve your performance at work. The idea is to make your holidays cheaper without cutting them out completely.

So how do you sort out budget holidays for your family? If you’re used to spending a lot of money on your holiday, see if you can take a look at your finances from your last trip and break down exactly what you spent. Were your flights the most expensive thing? How much did you spend on drinks at the hotel? What type of entertainment did you go to and how much did it cost?

If you can find out exactly where you spend your money, it’s very easy to create budget holidays that cut back on a few things without sacrificing the overall experience. If you spent a lot of money on food and drinks but didn’t often leave the resort, you could consider swapping to an all inclusive holiday. If you spent a great deal of flights, perhaps find a destination with a similar climate that’s slightly closer to home, travelling to Spain rather than Turkey or the Caribbean, for instance.

Budget holidays don’t have to be about saving every last penny and taking away all the magic of your holiday experience. Good budget holidays are simply about spending sensibly and keeping a good track of your finances.
