Remember the days when you could go anywhere you wanted without having to worry if they had enough entertainment for kids or if there were good facilities for babies? Changing from a couples or singles holiday to family holidays can be tricky for many as priorities change, but it doesn’t mean you can’t have a great time abroad as a family.

When booking Family holidays there’s a few things you can research to make your life easier. When picking your destination, it’s best to try and find places closer to home as shorter flights will make the journey much easier on you. If you can find a flight with no transfers this will also remove a lot of the stress of travelling with kids, and should be pretty easy if you travel within Europe, even on the budget airlines.

Once you’ve chosen your destination, the next most important decision is in the resort. Obviously, making sure all the internal facilities check out. Everything from baby changing to children’s pools and even the different social clubs children can join is a high priority, but also check out the surrounding area. Children will be much less happy to sit on a beach all day than you or your partner might be, so try to choose a resort close to attractions such as local zoos and animal parks, water parks or other child friendly activities.

If your children are slightly older finding activities both the kids and adults can enjoy gets much easier. Things like horse riding, cycling and diving become popular ways to spend time together as a family, although if you plan on doing a lot of outdoor physical things make sure the country you are heading for has the appropriate weather – many summer destinations are a little too hot for long walks!

Knowing what your family enjoy and what’s available at your chosen resort will make your family holidays pass much more smoothly.
