For most people, holidays are something they take for granted. The tourism and airline industry are in such a state to provide cheap fares that it’s generally the case that just about anyone with a job can afford to get away at least once a year without breaking the bank, even during the credit crunch. However, there are still plenty of people, especially seniors or teenagers who have yet to ever go on holidays abroad. If you’ve finally decided to take the plunge and spend your first time out of the UK, exactly what holidays are the best for you?
For people going on holidays for the first time, it’s often the case that they overcompensate and choose to go somewhere very exotic and end up finding it overwhelming or disappointing, so to avoid this it’s best to plan ahead and make sensible steps into the wider world. For your first holidays abroad, it’s normally much better to choose places that have a large amount of English speaking people and a proper infrastructure (medical services, law services and transportation) so if anything does go wrong, it’s far easier to sort out – even if it’s just you getting lost!
Great choices are unsurprisingly European destinations, where many resorts will be entirely English speaking and even the native population are likely to know large amounts of English. Greece, turkey, Portugal and Spain all offer up a great combination of sun, sea and sand with a decent level of support if you get out of your depth!
If you want to travel to somewhere more exotic though there are plenty of options available. Florida is a great first choice, although if you want an exotic island getaway rather than a family holiday you really can’t go wrong with Barbados. Don’t forget that these holidays are long haul though, and you’ll be spending quite some time on the plane.
Make sure you’ve done your research on holidays online before you book – not just the destination but also your travel insurance, how the airline works and any additional charges, how customs works and all the other ‘real life’ stuff that unfortunately we all have to think about before we get to that place in the sun!
