The English summer might be known for a having a few weeks of sunny weather – in between thunderstorms every weekend, of course. Really though, the only thing our short summers remind us of is that winter is just around the corner and then rather than the weekends just being full of rain and wind, the whole week will have generally terrible weather.
If you’re planning on going on sun holidays in the winter to avoid the worst of our climate, what places can offer the best chance of catching some rays without having to worry about landing for sun holidays in the middle of the rainy season or jetting off somewhere exotic only to find it not much warmer than it is back home?
If you don’t want to travel across the world then you’ll be pleased to know that popular tourist destinations that are close to home are still worthwhile vacation spots in the winter months as well. Both mainland Spain and France offer a healthy amount of sunshine even if temperatures are a little more subdued. Even the Balearic Islands can offer temperatures of up to 20 degrees during winter, perfect for walking or hiking holidays.
If you really do need to get the most from your sun holidays however, you do need to travel a little further afield. Egypt is a favourite amongst British holiday makers as the temperature rarely drops below 30 degrees year round and the accommodation and beaches make sun holidays to the African country truly an experience to remember. Likewise, taking a trip to Indian destinations such as Goa and Kerala can see temperatures in the high 20s and low 30s.
Another exotic option is to travel to Asia and enjoy sun holidays in countries like Malaysia and Thailand. You can expect some rain in quick, heavy bursts but at least it’s the tropical, refreshing type rather than the cold, harsh English weather!
